The Project: Waqf (Income Generation)
A new, sustainable mosque located in the village Kunde, in the Mangoochi District in Malawi.
Alhumdulilah Mosque construction is now complete.
Your support is still required to complete the Waqf projects to make the mosque truly sustainable
To become sustainable, and independent of donations the mosque will need its own income to pay for the salary of the Imam and any ongoing maintenance.
We are proposing to build a small chicken farm and nursery that will provide the income needed for the running expenses of the Mosque.
Energy access in Malawi is unreliable and expensive and often subject to power cuts.
We are proposing to install a renewable solar power system that will power lights and the speaker system for the mosque, without the need to connect to the grid.
Kunde is surrounded by 4 villages; therefore the total beneficiaries of this proposed mosque would be c. 500 households.
Why this location?
The previous Masjid was destroyed during natural disaster and subsequent flooding, therefore there is no Masjid serving the village and the surrounding areas.
The community mostly consists of poor farm workers who earn on average c. $35 per month.
Who is behind the project?
Lote Tree International, a UK Charity & Sustainable Aid Foundation, a Malawi charity will be implementing the project on behalf of donors
